Literature Text

Fixated gaze.
guileless
fervent

Mouth opens.

Pleads lustily,
nestles against,
latches on,

Pulls in!
a deep, gratified draught

Recoil
Revulsion
Dismay

The artless tongue will never forget
the foul
acerbic
disenchanting
taste of wormwood.

In the past wormwood (the plant that absinthe comes from) was used to wean children. It was put on the mother's nipple and the bitter taste deterred the child. I think it must be one of the first times an infant finds his or her trust broken.

I think this is the first time I've written a poem since high school, so please give constructive, helpful comments. I know nothing about technique, so please pick it apart. All I knew was the image I was trying to convey. Thank you!

UPDATE: Anyone who has been following my journal may know what the poem means to me. But it's applicable to a large variety of situations. Tell me what it means to you.
